Any

Before I describe our time in Zihua today, here are a couple of photos from yesterday.

First, a little more komorebi through our patio doors.

Next, a rather nice portrait of Linda ...

Carol was with Linda and they enjoyed a cold coconut milk drink together. Carol took the above portrait of her sister Linda enjoying hers.

We had errands in Zihua today and I submit the following collage to convey random street scenes. (You realize of course that you get a bigger view when you click on the photo.)

Among other things, I needed to renew my cell phone service, a better bargain in Zihua than in Ixtapa. Most things are a better bargain in Zihua. Three weeks of cell phone service providing unlimited phone calls and unlimited text messages, to anywhere in Mexico, USA, and Canada, is a pretty good deal at $6.70 Canadian. 300 MB of data included.

We wanted to have supper in a restaurant recommended as serving the most authentic Mexican cuisine you can get anywhere and, of course, recommended also for exceptionally tasty fare. It did not disappoint. It is also a restaurant that has decorated everything in the place except the knives and forks. I have shown a photo of this restaurant before in this blog. Its name is 'Any." Here is a photo of Carol's chair ...

And here is a photo of Carol in it ...

Then the waiter came over and we asked him to photograph the two of us ...

We were deliberately a tad early. The place soon
filled up.

Would you like to see what this supremely authentic Mexican food looked like? Here is the plate set before me, a stuffed pepper topped with cheese. Delicious!

As for Carol, she chose tamales. Since they are served wrapped in corn husks, they do not enjoy outstanding photogenic pizzazz, but they too were delicious.

In Carol's words, they were yummy.

Carol followed up the tamales with a cup of Atole.
If you're not sure what that is I'll let you Google it.

Of course it is always a good idea to wash one's hands before a meal and we both did so. That is how we discovered restaurant decorations were not limited to the restaurant itself. Here is a photo of the men's room sink ...

You may be thinking, "What about the toilet bowl? Was that decorated too?" Oh yes indeed. But why post a photo of that, huh? Not because it wasn't whistle clean; it absolutely was. But, in my humble opinion, the color scheme of the artwork could have been ... uh ... more decisive in avoiding an initially ... uh ... unwelcome impression.

As we were heading home we passed a musical group practicing Beethoven's 9th Symphony, one of my favorites. I took a hurried sample video ...

Granted it sounds more like an old, groaning, wheezing locomotive than Beethoven, but I'm sure they meant well. OK, I'm not sure at all, but I can hope.

Then it was goodbye to Zihuatanejo for today. We have a brother and his wife visiting here from BC who enjoy this place enough to compose and sing a song about it. You can listen to their performance by clicking on this link ...

And that's it for now.

...

Oh, all right, here's the decorated toilet ...

  1. So glad we made it to this restaurant. They only serve authentic traditional Mexican food and it is delicious. I had eaten tamales and atoles which are sold on the streets in early mornings to keep you warm, in other higher elevation areas of Mexico but never saw it served on the coast. Kind of comfort food and very inexpensive. Must go back!!
